Wine Sales Executive

Alexander Wines is an independently owned wine importer and wholesaler with over 36 years’ successful trading in the Scottish market, supplying high quality products to the premium hotel, restaurant and independent retail sector. We are constantly evolving to adapt to the changing market, yet remain true to the traditional values of service and quality; our reputation in the trade is second to none. Our customers include some of Scotland’s very best hotels, restaurants and independent retailers, and our portfolio encompasses wines from award-winning producers around the world. Alexander Wines’ recent strategic partnership with London based ABS Wine Agencies has allowed us access to a hugely impressive portfolio of additional wines from both niche boutique suppliers and big players in the global market.

Due to expansion, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join our sales team to develop business in Glasgow and the West of Scotland.

The successful candidate will have excellent connections in the Glasgow hospitality trade, be highly motivated, energetic and have the drive and determination to deliver results, sourcing new business as well as increasing sales with existing accounts. Reporting to the Sales Manager, your role will be to:

  • Identify and develop potential new business in the hotel and restaurant sector
  • Develop and increase sales with existing customers, building loyalty to Alexander Wines
  • Construct wine lists tailored to individual accounts
  • Organise trade visits with suppliers
  • Provide support at tastings and winemaker dinners
  • Carry out staff training for customers
  • Produce reports outlining prospects, sales activity and performance against budget
  • Contribute to the overall profitability of the business

The Ideal Candidate will:

  • Have an existing network of contacts in the Glasgow/West Coast hotel and restaurant trade
  • Be articulate and able to demonstrate very strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate a good level of numeracy and be competent in the use of Microsoft applications
  • Have a proven track record in identifying prospects and developing business
  • Have the ability to work on your own initiative to deliver volume and profit to target
  • Be WSET qualified (preferably Level 3) and have a genuine passion for wine
  • Be confident and personable, with an outgoing and engaging manner
  • Have a full UK driving licence

A competitive salary will be offered commensurate with experience, along with commission and profit sharing scheme.
