Loire Valley, France
Founded in 1811 by Jean-Baptiste Ackerman, this is now the oldest sparkling-wine house in Saumur and one of the biggest in the Loire Valley. Jean Baptiste used the ‘méthode traditionnelle’ that he had learned from his time spent in Champagne. The Saumur sparkling wine became an international hit and was being exported all over the world. In 1936, when the classification system was set up, Saumur Brut was granted AOC (Appellation d`Origine Controlée) status. In 1956, Ackerman Laurance decided to unite with the Rémy Pannier group to form the leading producer of Val de Loire wines and the one by which the others are judged. With such a rich history, Ackerman take great pride in tradition. Advances in terms of winemaking techniques, are at the heart of their authenticity. They are also strongly committed to the protection of terroirs through sustainable winegrowing.
